| YOUR HOBBIES Everyone has his own hobbies. Some like reading papers, magazines, and books while others like watching TV or films, traveling, listening to music etc. I also have my own hobbies. In my free time I have many things to do. Let me share with you. The hobby I like best is playing guitar. My mother gave it to me as a present on my 2nd birthday. My uncle, who plays guitar very well, is teaching me now, and I can play a few simple tunes, but I still have a lot of difficulties. My uncle tells me that I have to practice a lot and then it will be OK. Another hobby that I also spend much time on it is keeping fish. I have a small beautiful aquarium where I keep a variety of little fishes. Some of them were bought from the market while others were given by my friends. They look so beautiful swimming about in the aquarium. I love watching them very much. How relaxed I am! I collect stamps, too. But I just take the stamps from envelopes that my relatives and friends sent to me. Most of them are local stamps. Sometimes, I go to the Youth’s Cultural House to exchange stamps with the Stamp club there. One more hobby I’d like to mention here is singing Karaoke – one of the most popular ways of entertainment among the young now. To many people, singing karaoke seems to be very interesting. How excited we are when we can enjoy our own voice although it’s not very good. Sometimes we have to struggle together to sing a song we like. There are other hobbies that I’m also interested in such as going fishing or chatting on the internet or with my friends in coffee shops or bars at weekends. Sometimes I also go shopping for some things I need. How about your hobbies? Please share together! QUESTIONS FOR DISCUSSION 1. Do you have a lot of free time? How do you spend it? What are your hobbies? Which one do you like best? 2. Do you like watching TV? Do you watch TV a lot? How often do you watch TV? When do usually watch it? What kinds of programs do you usually watch usually watch? What’s your favorite program? What’s your favorite channel? 3. Do you like watching films? What kinds of programs do you prefer? What is your favorite film? Can you tell me which film stars are your idols? Where do usually see films: at home or cinema? 4. Do you listen to the radio a lot? How much time do you listen to it every day? When do you listen to it? What kinds of programs do you often listen to? Do you ever listen to programs in English? What’s your favorite radio station? Do you ever listen to the radio in bed? 5. Do you like listening to music? What kinds of music do you listen to? Who are your favorite singers and groups? Do you like listening to the “Blue Wave 99.9Mhz” program on Ho Chi Minh Radio Station? Have you ever asked for songs you like? 6. Do you play any sports? What sports do you like most? When do you usually play? How do you feel after playing? 7. What do you usually do at the weekends? What do you think of singing Karaoke? Do you often go to Karaoke Bars? Which one do you like best? Why? How often do you go singing karaoke? 8. Singing karaoke is good or bad to you? Does singing karaoke help you get rid of the burden or difficulty in your life? Do you think you are more confident when singing karaoke? Is it the best way for you to improve your confidence? 9. There are many kinds of entertainment new, which one do you like best? Can you explain it clearly, please? 10. What do you think of the car racing happening in our City last month? Do you think this is a new way of entertainment among rich young people now? | YOUR HOBBIES Hobbies not only provide us the oasis like experience in the deserts of us life but also provide us nourishing facts of knowledge along with an escape from monotonous life. Life would be very boring without hobbies; we could appear like robots, without feelings, like color blind creatures, like aliens on our own planet. Since our first nursery school days, hobbies give sense to our existence. Therefore, in order to keep a balance between busy moments and free time, we take up hobbies. A good hobby can energize your life. If you think you are just too tired after work to do something with your spare time. If you find something you are passionate about, you might be surprised by the some hidden energy you have. Hobby is a way to have fun. Having fun is important. Life is much too short to be serious all the time. Having fun can release tension and is a perfect way to counter stress. Having a hobby that is fun can make us feel alive again and remind us that we do not always need to be productive to feel worthwhile. Doing the activity for the sake of doing it is enough! Get out there and have some fun. Hobbies can allow you to be the person you were meant to be and give perspective to your life. It can remind us on a regular basis – life is not always about work. We could talk about a long list of hobbies or about a list of hobbies and interests. These lists are different, depending on factories like age, sex, region, family background, education or personality. For example, when we are small children, our hobbies may be: playing computer games, watching cartoons, taking up different sports, playing a musical instrument, looking after a pet, collecting things, etc. Family background is also important in taking up a hobby. For examples, in a family where one of the members in an artist, it is very probable that their children or sportsperson have the same hobbies or interests. Hobbies depend on personality. A choleric person could never take up a hobby like making models, as he and she would not have the patience necessary. Encouraging someone to develop a hobby will take some time and effort. We need to find different interests to give him/her some choices and he/she will decide which hobby really interests him/her. By finding an area of interests, one can build competence and skill. This leads to positive results and builds one’s confidence. This will lead to more competence and skill. Our likes and dislikes help define who we are as people. One of the main jobs of the life stage of adolescence is scoping out our personal definition of who we are. Hobbies help by sending a signal, “I like doing this. This makes me feel good about me. Therefore, this is a part of who I am”. In short, life is great and we can make a hobby out of the most insignificant thing, with a little imagination, and it will help us have a positive thinking. Let’s talk about your hobbies in today’s discussion. QUESTIONS FOR DISCUSSION 1. How do you definite the term “hobbies”? Is there any difference between hobbies and interests? 2. What are some of your hobbies? How often do you practice your hobbies? 3. In your opinion, what has been the best form of hobbies so far? Please clarify your point? 4. Do you think maintaining hobbies is a way to prevent ourselves from being stressed? 5. What are some suggestions for taking a hobby? 6. There are positive as well as negative hobbies, do you agree? Why or why not? 7. Are you looking for a new hobby? Please construe your points? 8. Sometimes hobbies become addiction, what should we do then? 9. Do you have any idea what is the relation between our hobbies and characteristics? 10. What have you learnt from today’s discussion? File word: http://www.mediafire.com/?9kx0effb4oo1yrn |

| Nghĩa nói đúng đó Hạnh, mình nên dùng với their hơn là với his or her. Chú Nghĩa nhầm từ his với him nên a nghĩ là ở bài thứ 2.
Anh mới tìm được trên mạng nè.
Question: Which one is correct:
Everybody has its own problems
or
Everybody have its own problems
or maybe
Everybody has/have their own problems
Answer: Everybody, even though it sounds plural, is considered a singular subject, so it requires a singular verb… HAS
Everybody has….
Many people will say that using he possessive adjective THEIR is incorrect, because it is a plural and Everybody is singular.
To be formally correct you could say "Everybody has his or her own problems." But this can sound a little awkward, and it's now very common for people to use the 3rd person plural possessive as a gender-neutral 2nd person singular.
So it's generally okay to say "Everybody has their own problems" unless you are writing in a very formal context |
